Private pilots operate under general aviation. This encompasses a wide range of aviation activity, such as pilot training, business, recreation, crop spraying, mail deliveries, medical transport, civil search/rescue, law enforcement, aerial survey, pollution control, fire-fighting, flying displays and other aviation related activities, provided however that they do not charge remuneration for each pilot service they render.

Commercial Transport
Commercial pilots are allowed to perform all the activities in general aviation for remuneration per flight. Commercial air transport operation involves primarily the transport of passengers, cargo or other aviation activities for remuneration or hire. These are not scheduled flights and are generally by charter. The coverage is wider and it is in this sphere of aviation that pilots are now in demand.

Airline Transport
Airline transportation involves scheduled services for revenue. These are flights scheduled and performed for remuneration according to a published timetable, or so regular or frequent as to constitute a recognizably systematic series, which are open to direct booking by the public, and extra section flights occasioned by overflow traffic from scheduled flights. The airline industry projects a need for 500,000 airline pilots in the next 2 decades.
